Lawrence - larence (they/them/il/iel)

Lawrence Fafard, based in Montreal, is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist and photographer. Their work has been featured on various local platforms and media outlets and they collaborated with many creators such as Patrick Watson, Klô Pelgag and Helena Deland. Their work has also been presented at the PHI Centre for the event Dress to Succeed: Party de bureau (2018) and at Usine C as part of Nice Try (2020).

Fafard have also self-produced several projects, including exhibitions, a photographic publication titled Nos Corps (2019), and an artist's book tracing their artistic, personal, and identity journey, scheduled for release in 2025.

Their practice explores the convergences between fantasy and reality through an exploration of the photographic medium and various visual narratives. Their works document an ongoing testimony on gender identity and address the necessity of a more affirmed sense of community.

Fafard practice examines how personal and collective stories can create new forms of storytelling. This research is expressed through hybrid creations, navigating between speculative realities and imaginaries, with the aim of building new dialogues free from binary and normative perspectives. Their work evokes the imagination and considers the realm of dreams as a space for the active emergence of desire and political transformation, rather than a place of passive and unconscious reflection.
